Obama petitioned to label Roman Catholic Church as a ‘hate group’
Already petitioned to label the Westboro Baptist Church, home of the
God Hates Fags campaign as a ‘hate group’, Barack Obama is now being
petitioned to give the same label to the Roman Catholic Church.
The petition cites comments made by the Pope at Christmas where he said that gay people are manipulating their sexual orientation to alter god-given nature, and that they ”deny their nature”, which is “given to them by their bodily identity.”
The petition says:-
“In his annual Christmas address to the College of Cardinals, Pope Benedict XVI, the global leader of the Roman Catholic Church, demeaned and belittled homosexual people around the world. Using hateful language and discriminatory remarks, the Pope painted a portrait in which gay people are second-class global citizens.
“Pope Benedict said that gay people starting families are threatening to society, and that gay parents objectify and take away the dignity of children. The Pope also implied that gay families are sub-human, as they are not dignified in the eyes of God.
“Upon these remarks, the Roman Catholic Church fits the definition of a hate group as defined by both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League.”
With more than 77 million registered members, the Catholic Church is the largest single denomination in the United States of America and it is highly unlikely that the president would wish to alienate such a large number of people. Released less than 24 hours ago, it has failed to gain any signatures and is currently not visible on the main White House petitions website.
In his ‘World Day of Peace’ remarks last week, the Pope said: “There is also a need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of union.
“Such attempts actually harm and help to destabilise marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society”, the Pope told worshipers.
Pope Benedict XVI was also pictured giving a blessing to Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, who has promised to pass the country’s notorious Anti-Homosexuality Bill as a “Christmas gift”.

Warwick University Rowing Club Naked Calendars 2013
The rowing team of the University of Warwick has made quite a splash this year with a pair of popular naked calendars. Complete
with risqué poses and cleverly covered private bits, members of the
men's and women's rowing teams from the U.K. university are letting it
all hang out in the racy calendars... coxswains and all.
Though the sexy photo shoot has become a bit of tradition for the men's team, this was reportedly the first year that the women's team stripped down for a calendar of its own.
The men's team has promised that a portion of their profits will go to the Ben Cohen’s StandUp Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting the bullying of LGBT kids.
"Ben's foundation tackles bullying, and particularly homophobic bullying, in both the U.K. and the U.S. We were really delighted to find out about Ben's work -- like Ben, we have had a huge amount of support from the gay community over the last four years, and this is our way of saying thank you. No h8!" the team wrote on its Crowdfunder fundraising page.
They have raised approximately $6,000 so far.
But before you reach for your pocketbooks, be warned: the men's team calendars are all sold out. Fortunately, there are still plenty of photographs that are still available on the team's website. The women's calendar is also still available.
Perhaps anticipating the overwhelming response, the men's team have also put together a short film, naughtily titled "Brokeback Boathouse."
“Discover the unpixellated truth about what happens when sportsmen get together and get naked,” says a teaser for the video, which is available online for about $16.
Though the rowing teams have received plenty of support for their fundraising effort, The Huffington Post UK notes that public reaction to the calendars this year -- particularly to the women's version -- has not been entirely positive, with some criticizing the students for selling semi-pornographic material.
The students, however, are standing tall amid the controversy.
"It's grossly unfair," Hettie Reed, one of the many nude stars of the women's rowing club's calendar, told the HuffPost UK. "Our men's calendar has received none of this kind of attention. It is much easier for a woman to be labelled a 'slut' than a man and this attitude has seemingly filtered down into the naked calendar market."
"The whole concept of a naked calendar is to raise money for worthy and meaningful charities through a bit of harmless nudity, and I do think it is really sad that there are people out there who are willing to criticize and insult these efforts," she added.

Meet The Gay Marine Whose Homecoming Kiss Went Viral
BY Sunnivie Brydum
On February 22, Marine Sergeant Brandon Morgan was returning from a six-month deployment to Afghanistan by way of a military base in Hawaii. Morgan's boyfriend, Dalan Wells, was at the base to greet his partner as he returned home, along with the spouses and girlfriends receiving their returning soldiers. When Morgan saw Wells, he was so moved that he leapt into his boyfriend's arms, where the two shared a passionate kiss, caught on camera by bystanders. The photo quickly went viral, a visceral, visual reminder of the progress made by repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Just in time for the new year, YouTube filmmakers Gay Family Values
sat down with Sgt. Morgan, 25, and Wells, 38 to get the full story on
the moment that became an iconic symbol of the march toward equality in
our nation's military.
"There was a little bit of hesitation on Dalan's part to
even be there," explains Sgt. Morgan. "Because, yes, the repeal had
happened, DADT was dead, but for the most part there were military
spouses or girlfriends there, all dressed up to receive their men,
husbands dressed up to receive their wives back from deployment, but we
were the only same-sex couple."
"Well, I'm very shy," said Wells. "Then I started
realizing, oh, he can go off to Afghanistan for six months to go to war,
and I'm afraid to even show up at a hangar to greet him when he gets
off the bus? So then I felt bad and was like, fine, I can do it."
'Romanian Orthodox Priests' Produce Steamy Gay 2013 Calendar
A calendar spread featuring men who claim to be Romanian Orthodox
priests in scintillating poses is making the blogosphere rounds.
The Romanian Orthodox calendar includes "12 seductive artistic pictures of Orthodox priests and their guests" according to its official website. The calendar's description reads as follows:
Describing the calendar as "homoerotic" with shots "mingling the edgy with the hot," officials go on to note: "This first 2013 edition tells the individual story of 12 intensely masculine young men and their guests representing different parts of eastern Europe. All are open-minded and believe that besides their passionate devotion to the Orthodox Church, it is important to be perceived as individuals committed to diversity and acceptance."

"It is a time when the Orthodox Church is embroiled in corruption scandals, artist repression, gay sex cover-ups, outrageous behavior and homophobia. Yet some of their members have agreed to strike a pose and openly stand for who they are underneath the priest’s clothing they wear: regular people with passions, preferences, interests and desires."Preview photos which appear on the calendar's Facebook page contain some double entendre-laden captions. Reads one: "Father Daniel has a simple plan to collect enough funds from his church to help needy children in his village. But the size of some men's projects have made his jaw drop."

Dutch Catholics “de-baptize” to protest Pope Benedict comments against gay marriage
Thousands of Dutch Catholics are researching how they can leave the
church in protest at its opposition to gay marriage, according to the
creator of a website aimed at helping them find the information.
Tom Roes, whose website allows people to download the documents needed to leave the Church, said traffic on ontdopen.nl – “de-baptize.nl” – had soared from about 10 visits a day to more than 10,000 after Pope Benedict’s latest denunciation of gay marriage this month.
“Of course it’s not possible to be ‘de-baptized’ because a baptism is an event, but this way people can unsubscribe or de-register themselves as Catholics,” Roes told Reuters.
He said he did not know how many visitors to the site actually go ahead and leave the Church.
About 28 percent of the population in the Netherlands is Catholic and 18 percent is Protestant, while a much larger proportion – roughly 44 percent – is not religious, according to official statistics.
The country is famous for its liberal attitudes, for example to drugs and prostitution, and in April 2001 it was the first in the world to legalize same-sex marriages.
In a Christmas address to Vatican officials, the pope signaled the he was ready to forge alliances with other religions against gay marriage, saying the family was threatened “to its foundations” by attempts to change its “true structure”.
Roes, a television director, said he left the Church and set up his website partly because he was angry about the way the Church downplayed or covered-up sexual abuse in Catholic orphanages, boarding schools and seminaries.
A report by an independent commission published a year ago said there had been tens of thousands of victims of child sexual abuse in the Netherlands since 1945 and criticized the Church’s culture of silence.

Maryland Clerks Opt Out Of Performing Marriages Rather Than Serve Gay Couples
Some deputy court clerks in Maryland
have opted out of performing marriages rather than serve gay couples
as the state's marriage equality law comes into effect on Tuesday.
The law was approved by lawmakers and
upheld by 52 percent of voters on November 6.
According to The
Washington Examiner, some clerks in the St. Mary's County
Circuit Court will pass on their marriage duties to other employees.
“There are some [deputy clerks] that
have voiced some opposition to doing it – [they have] religious
feelings about it … so it's basically my idea that they won't do
any marriage[s] at all,” said Joan Williams, clerk of the St.
Mary's County Circuit Court. “Some people are just very against
same-sex marriages, and I have to respect their reasons and their
decisions.”
Carrie Evans, executive director of
Equality Maryland, which lobbied for passage of the measure, said
changing which deputy clerks perform marriages is acceptable.
On this one, I completely disagree with Carrie Evans...these people are public servants, holding government jobs, if we as a minority allow such reprehensible behavior froma civil servant, then what next?
Your postman decides he can't deliver your mail, you can't renew your drivers license etc?
No, if these people can't perform their jobs then their employment needs terminated.
If they want to argue this is religious persecution, then they should read the Bible again, you know, the part where Christ said: "Render unto Caesar what is Caesars" and how about Paul stating slaves should obey their masters?
