Conan's Chaz The Intolerant Chick-Fil-A Chicken Returns With More Life Advice

Kevin Swanson, Anti-Gay Pastor, Slams Jim Henson Company For Nixing Chick-Fil-A Toy Deal

A right-wing pastor and radio host slammed the Jim Henson Company for "taking the sodomy route" by severing a planned kids' meal partnership with Chick-fil-A over the restaurant chain's proclaimed anti-gay stance.
As Right Wing Watch reports, Kevin Swanson of Generations with Vision -- who expressed nostalgia for a time when Christians "brought the death penalty upon homosexuality" -- spoke at length about the backlash against the Atlanta-based fast food chain.
"A Christian perspective ultimately brought the death penalty upon homosexuality between roughly 350 AD and roughly 1850 or so, for about 1,500 years that form of life had pretty much been eliminated except here and there, it was in the closet, but it was almost unheard of for over 1,000 years, until recently," he proclaimed. "Of course, now you have a massive, massive increase in this kind of thing."
Along with co-host Dave Buehner, Swanson quickly turns his attention to the nixed Jim Henson Company toy deal. After Buehner states that "Kermit is not that interested in Miss Piggy -- maybe he’s interested in another frog," Swanson suggests, "Maybe [Chick-fil-A President] Dan Cathy should consider doing a frog filet for one of the sandwiches."
Buehner interjected, "I think Miss Piggy on a bun -- that’s a better bet, the winner!"
You can listen to the snippet of the broadcast, via Right Wing Watch, here.
Swanson, whose program's aim is to "present life from the perspective of a biblical worldview and within the framework of a relational model of living," previously stated that gay parents were one of the "most devastating things” in the “history of mankind," according to Right Wing Watch. Suggesting that pedophilia was "part and parcel of the homosexual vision," he later called for a return to "biblical law" in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky trial, the site also reported.
Interestingly, Swanson's argument is perhaps a bit misinformed, as a representative from The Jim Henson Company told The Huffington Post that the company no longer has any affiliation with "The Muppets," as they were acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2004. The Chick-Fil-A toy deal comprised the since-recalled "Jim Henson's Creature Shop toys," which had no connection to any of the known "Muppets" characters.

Conn. judge: US gay marriage law unconstitutional

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A federal judge in Connecticut has ruled that part of a federal law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman and denies federal benefits to married gay couples is unconstitutional.
U.S. District Judge Vanessa L. Bryant in Hartford ruled Tuesday that the provision in the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act violates the Fifth Amendment right to equal protection.
The ruling came in the case of six married same-sex couples and a widower who sued after being denied federal benefits. The plaintiffs are from Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Advocates for gay and lesbians applauded the ruling but expected an appeal.
Several similar rulings have been made by courts across the country. The Obama administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to settle legal fights over the law.

Black wedding banned by Baptist church

CRYSTAL SPRINGS, MS (WLBT) -
It was to be their big day, but a Jackson couple says the church where they were planning to wed turned them away because of their race.
Now, the couple wants answers, and the church's pastor is questioning the mindset of some of members of his congregation who caused the problem in the first place.
They had set the date and printed and mailed out all the invitations, but the day before wedding bells were to ring for Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson, they say they got some bad news from the pastor.
"The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if he went on to marry her, then they would vote him out the church," said Charles Wilson.
The Wilsons were trying to get married at the predominantly white First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs -- a church they attend regularly, but are not members of.
"He had people in the sanctuary that were pitching a fit about us being a black couple," said Te'Andrea Wilson. "I didn't like it at all, because I wasn't brought up to be racist. I was brought up to love and care for everybody."
The church's pastor, Dr. Stan Weatherford, says he was taken by surprise by what he calls a small minority against the black marriage at the church.
"This had never been done before here, so it was setting a new precedent, and there are those who reacted to that because of that," said Weatherford.
Weatherford went on and performed the wedding at a nearby church.
"I didn't want to have a controversy within the church, and I didn't want a controversy to affect the wedding of Charles and Te' Andrea. I wanted to make sure their wedding day was a special day," said Weatherford.
After months of planning, the newlyweds say they had no choice but to go through with the wedding at the new location, but they still can't understand why a church would ban their wedding because of race.
"I blame the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, I blame those members who knew and call themselves Christians and didn't stand up," said Charles Wilson.
Church officials say they welcome any race into their congregation. They now plan to hold internal meetings on how to move forward, should this situation occur again.
"I was prepared to go ahead and do the wedding here just like it was planned, and just like we agreed to," said Weatherford. "I was just looking for an opportunity to be able to address a need within our congregation and at the same time minister to them."
Whats to be upset about?
At least they can still *get* married unlike others in our little bigoted country.
I'm sure these rednecks were just emboldened by their victories over the fags so logically, they have moved onto the next group on their hatelist...blacks.
And while your lamenting this civil violation of your basic human rights, just remember, majority rules and if you allow state wide constitutional amendments banning one group from basic civil rights, you could very well be next on the list.
Those who will not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.
 'nuff said,

DeMint Proves Validity Of Pro-Gay Ad By Inventing Controversy To Get It Pulled

Supporters of Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) have been pressuring media outlets to pull an ad attacking his position that people who are gay should not be allowed to teach in public schools. Now, the senator’s attorney, Cleta Mitchell, has successfully convinced WCBD Channel 2 in Charleston to pull the ad, inherently proving its very message.
The supposed controversy is a claim that the ad portrays DeMint as being anti-Semitic, though notably no one in Charleston’s Jewish community actually complained about the ad. It juxtaposes a fake headline about DeMint opposing letting Jews be teachers against a real one about opposing letting people who are gay be teachers. WCBD wanted the ad to be edited to clarify  that the fake headline was fake — even though the narration clearly distinguishes between the two — but the ad’s sponsor, the Alliance for Full Acceptance, refused to change it. Watch the ad in question:
The only aspect of this story sadder than the faux outrage and manipulated use of anti-Semitism is the ironic way the response exemplifies the point of the ad. DeMint’s beliefs about gay people are horribly offensive, essentially suggesting that they are all an inherent threat to children. If he were to say that about any other group, be it Jews, people of color, people with disabilities, or people with hazel eyes, he would be instantly decried. Instead, his anti-gay positions continue to be minimized as his supporters invent a different attack on him as a means to defend him and his biases. Hopefully this manufactured controversy helps more people understand DeMint’s reprehensible beliefs and think twice about whether or not gays and lesbians have actually achieved respect in society.

Sparring erupts over military personnel in San Diego gay parade

Organizers of the military contingent in Saturday's LGBT Pride parade in San Diego have accused congressional critics of trying to "bully the
Pentagon into moving backwards" on the issue of gays in the military.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) and U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.) criticized the Pentagon's decision to let service members wear their uniforms while marching in the parade -- the first time military personnel have been permitted to wear uniforms in a gay parade.
Forbes said the decision by a deputy assistant secretary of defense "was an outrageous and blatantly political determination issued solely to advance this administration's social agenda."
Inhofe demanded an explanation from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Inhofe, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the decision to allow personnel to wear their uniforms in the parade violates a Department of Defense policy banning personnel from involvement "in a partisan political parade."
In a letter to Panetta, Inhofe requested "a detailed explanation of the rationale you used to grant this 'one time waiver' of DOD policy, who requested the waiver, why this waiver was considered justified over other requests and whether you are considering other exceptions to current policy."
Former sailor Sean Sala, a member of Servicemembers United Leadership Council and the organizer of the military contingent for the parade, issued a statement Wednesday reading, in part:
"Sen. Inhofe and his like-minded colleagues should spend some time actually meeting and talking with some of these gay troops and veterans instead of using their platform to try to bully the Pentagon into moving backwards."
The San Diego parade and festival, Sala said, "are in the same category of non-partisan and non-political community events as are many other events and parades in which servicemembers are also allowed to participate in uniform."
Upward of four dozen military personnel wore uniforms in the parade through the heavily gay neighborhood of Hillcrest. Other military members marched with them, many wearing T-shirts identifying their branch of service.

This just goes to show you exactly how desperate and loathsome the Republican party has become.
There are no limits they won't sink too, no line they won't cross in their never ending quest for power and control, and since the fundamentalist Christian movement have bound themselves to this party and apparently have taken the reigns of power, one must assume this is what they consider Christ like behavior and what traditional family values really stand for.

Gay Olympic torch bearer kisses boyfriend for cheering crowd

Gay soccer organizer Chris Basiurski helps carry Olympic torch through London
Chris Basiurski carrying the Olympic torch through London.
Gay Football Supporters Network chair Chris Basiurski was cheered today (26 July) as he kissed his boyfriend before carrying the Olympic torch through London.
He told the crowd he was going to marry his partner, James, next year.
Earlier in the day comedy gay icons Eddie and Patsy of TV show Absolutely Fabulous also became torch bearers.
But the honor has also been given to a few LGBT campaigners.
Basiurski’s organization is a network for the LGBT soccer community, many of who will be attending Olympic events, particularly the football tournament.
He told Gay Star News: ‘I'm honored to have carried the torch through London and it was amazing to see and hear all the support from both my family and GFSN members along the route.’
Meanwhile a gay campaigner against hate crime has also spoken about being a torch bearer on Monday (23 July).
Mark Healey was chose because of his work founding the charity 17-24-30 which was set up in tribute to the victims of the London Nail Bomb attacks on Brixton, Brick Lane and Soho – the last of which targeted a gay bar, killing three people and wounding 70.
Healey said: ‘There were thousands of people along the route clapping and cheering as we travelled along.
‘Now I have the torch I want to take it out to the people that have supported 17-24-30 over the past three years, to make sure that they can share in this experience.
‘Through community events like this that we learn to set aside our differences and become as one, more united, stronger community and that will help us tackle issues like hate crime

Pope Benedict XVI Names Viciously Anti-Gay Priest As Archbishop Of San Francisco

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed a new Archbishop of San Francisco: Salvatore Cordileone. Though his name is not yet widespread, Cordileone, currently the Bishop of Oakland, has already had massive success pushing an anti-equality agenda: he was the heart of the Catholic Church’s strategy to pass Proposition 8 in California, which eliminated marriage equality for millions of Americans.
In 2008, Cordileone and a select cadre of Catholic leaders decided that their best chance to end marriage equality was to pass an amendment to the state constitution. Cordileone found the first major donor and built a lasting fundraising network for the group. He brought in an organization to lead the petition. He activated a network of California’s Catholic churches, and helped craft the Prop 8 messaging campaign, even using focus groups. The campaign was successful in passing Prop 8, making Cordileone a primary reason Californians are currently denied marriage equality. After the amendment passed, Cordileone bragged to a Catholic radio show that gay Americans never saw him coming, and called gay marriage a Satanic plot by “the Evil One” to annihilate morality.
Cordileone has continued to be one of America’s most prominent anti-gay Catholic officials. In January 2011, Cordileone was named the chairman of the U.S. Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee for the Defense of Marriage, a group dedicated to using religious influence to deny marriage equality. Cordileone is one of only 18 American bishops who have signed the Manhattan Declaration, a pledge to protect “the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, and religious liberty,” even if doing so means violating the law.
Pope Benedict’s choice of Cordileone is exactly wrong for the diocese of San Francisco, a city with a storied history of LGBT pride. It is a further step in the Vatican’s dedication to use Catholic doctrine to keep LGBT Americans suppressed and with fewer rights. In June, the Church publicly condemned Sister Margaret Farley, who wrote a book approving of marriage equality and advocating for comprehensive sex education. Cordileone can be relied on to side with the Vatican in such rebukes of reason and equality, and for that, the Church rewards him.
