Florida State Rep. Charles Van Zant, a
Republican, has warned that the company hired to help implement
educational standards largely based on the Common Core State
Standards is promoting an agenda to turn kids gay.
Speaking at the Operation Education
Conference, an anti-Common Core event which took place in Orlando in
March, Zant warned that the company hired to produced Florida's next
statewide exam, American Institutes for Research (AIR), has a hidden
agenda.
“Please go on their website, click
the link to what they're doing with youth, and you will see what
their agenda really is,”
“They are promoting as hard as they
can any youth that is interested in the LGBT agenda. And even name
it 2-S, which they define as having two spirits,” a reference to
AIR's LGBTQI2-S Learning Community Project, which is described on
AIR's website as “an opportunity for individuals and organizations
in the behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice, and
education systems to learn about strategies for delivering services
that can enhance the well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, questioning, intersex, or two-spirit (LGBTQI2-S) youth
and their families.”
“The Bible says a lot about being
double-minded,” Zant continued. “These people, that will now
receive $220 million from the state of Florida unless this is
stopped, will promote double-mindedness in state education and
attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they
possibly can. I'm sorry to report that to you.”
Nadine Smith, CEO of Equality Florida
Institute, called Zant's comments “absurd.”
“Representative Van Zant has a long
record of extremism, so while his latest rant is shocking, it is not
at all surprising,” Smith said in a statement. “It is
reprehensible whenever an elected official conjures up homophobic
scare tactics for political gain. His assertion that an educational
program seeks to 'make children gay' is simply absurd. I hope others
in Florida government will swiftly distance themselves from such a
paranoid and unhinged view.”
Here's the real logic behind Mr. Van Zant's mental processes...
