Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has
said that the decision to allow gay couples to marry should be left
up to the state.
“It ought to be a local decision. I
mean, a state decision,” Bush, a Republican who is considering a
presidential run, told the Miami
Herald. “The state decided. The people of the state
decided. But it's been overturned by the courts, I guess.”
A federal judge's ruling striking down
Florida's gay marriage ban takes effect on Tuesday.
Bush, who left office in 2007, has
repeatedly said that he's opposed to marriage equality, but did not
endorse passage of Florida's 2008 voter-approved constitutional
amendment limiting marriage to heterosexual couples.
Two years ago, he suggested in a
Charlie Rose interview that gay parents could be held up as role
models.
“If people love their children with
all their heart and soul and that's what they do and that's how they
organize their life, that should be held up as an example to others,
because we need it,” he said.
Okay Jeb, if heterosexual voters get to decided whether or not homosexuals can marry or not, the fair and equal thing to do, is let homosexuals vote on whether heterosexual couples should be allowed to marry...sound fair Jeb?
