Savage to Santorum: "I'll Gay for Him"

Dan Savage has an idea on how he and Rick Santorum can coexist peacefully.

"Rick can pray for me. I'll gay for him. And we can call it even," he said in a statement to Mother Jones when asked to respond to a comment the presidential candidate made to RealClearReligion.

Santorum was successfully Google-bombed by Savage years ago after the former Pennsylvania senator compared gay sex to pedophilia and bestiality. That means a link to SpreadingSantorum.com is even still now on the first page of search results for the senator's name. The site defines Santorum as a by-product of anal sex (although it goes into much more detail).

"He obviously has some serious issues," Santorum told RealClearReligion. "You look at someone like that who can say and do the things that he's doing and you just pray for him and hopefully he can find peace."

Savage doesn't think he's the one with "serious issues."

"Rick Santorum thinks that women who have been raped should be compelled — by force of law — to carry the babies of their rapists to term, he thinks birth control should be illegal, he wants to prosecute pornographers, etc., etc., basically the guy wants to be president so that he can micromanage the sex lives of all Americans," Savage told Mother Jones, "and I'm the one with issues?"

In the video below, Rachel Maddow offers more background on how the fight between Savage and Santorum has evolved.
