From Gaystar News:
National Basketball Association legend Charles Barkley wants college
basketball to remove its most important game out of Indiana.
Every March and April the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) holds its Final Four tournament (March Madness).
This year the championship will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Earlier this week, Governor Mike Pence
signed a bill allowing anyone - including private businesses and
organizations - to discriminate against LGBT people and others based on
religious beliefs.
'Discrimination in any form is unacceptable to me,' Barkley said in a statement, according to Talking Points Memo.
'As long as anti-gay legislation exists in any state, I strongly
believe big events such as the Final Four and Super Bowl should not be
held in those states’ cities,' the statement continued.
The Super Bowl is the championship game of the National Football League.
Barkley, who is also an analyst during the Final Four, is an LGBT ally.
He defended Michael Sam when the National Football rookie came out. Basketball journeyman, and out gay man, Jason Collins also received Barkley's praises.
The Hall of Famer has always dismissed questions about gay players being a disruption in the lockers.
'I think it's an insult to gay people to think that they are going to
be looking at their teammates in a sexual way' the retired ball player
once said in a CNN interview
'That's an insult to all gay men,' he continued.
