Russell Tovey As The Gay Superhero The Ray

Russell Tovey is going to star as a gay superhero, called The Ray, in an upcoming TV series.
The Ray is a superhero with the ability to manipulate light, who lives on an alternative Earth where the Nazis won World War II.
Raymond Terrill, his human alter ego, will be seen as gay in the Crisis On Earth X series.
The TV show will document the descent of the Nazis from the alternative Earth to the one we inhabit now.

A crossover between The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Arrow, it will show all four leads taking part in the four-part series.
Tovey’s character will be a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction.
Images show Tovey in a uniform reminiscent of Holocaust prisoners, including the upside down pink triangle branding some victims as gay.
Tovey’s character will also feature in his own animated series called Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which the actor is voicing.
The animation spin-off is the concept of Arrow’s gay co-creator, Greg Berlanti.
The Ray joins Legend Of Tomorrow’s Sara Lance, The Flash’s Central City PD Captain David Singh and Supergirl’s Alex Danvers as the latest gay superhero on the CW.

Crisis On Earth-X begins airing on 27 November.
