Premium cable network Showtime will
premiere Kidnapped for Christ on Thursday, July 10.
The 85-minute award-winning documentary
from Director Kate S. Logan and executive producers Lance Bass, Tom
DeSanto and Mike C. Manning pulls back the curtain to expose the
billion-dollar transformational school industry.
The film focuses on a controversial and
unregulated behavior modification program for “troubled” teens
being offered by Escuela Caribe in the Dominican Republican.
There Logan finds David, a 17-year-old
honor student from Colorado who was sent to the program shortly after
coming out gay to his parents.
In a trailer for the film, David says
he was kidnapped from his home by two men.
“One morning I woke up, two guys were
at my house,” David explains. “They tied a belt around my waist.
Dragged me with the belt to their car.”
“I got sent down here because I'm gay
and my parents they just weren't okay with that,” he adds.
Kidnapped for Christ won the
Special Jury Award at the 2014 Nashville Film Festival and the
Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 2014 Slamdance
Film Festival.
