At least 34 cases in which people were harassed because of their sexual orientation until they decided to leave their neighborhood were recorded in the first three quarters of this year.
This number is based on data collected by anti-discrimination organizations and several police forces. Twenty-nine such cases were recorded in 2010, compared to 27 a year earlier.
A total of 158 cases have been recorded so far this year. In addition to sexual inclination, motives for harassment included ethnicity 96 cases and physical disabilities 11 cases.
The sector organization of anti-discrimination organizations says the quoted numbers are just the tip of the iceberg because, among other reasons, discrimination is not always registered or even recognized as such.
