Gay Teen Couple On The Fosters, Grapple With Coming Out

Teen couple Jude and Connor made TV history in March when they became the youngest same-sex couple to share an on-screen kiss.
Their new romance continues on this week's third season premiere of The Fosters but the best friends turned boyfriends are now facing new challenges.
They are now grappling with something all young couples face: how public should they go with their relationship?
Jude (Hayden Byerly) knows how he feels about Connor (Gavin MacIntosh) and yet he reacts negatively when a classmates describes him as gay.
'My whole life I've been labeled as something,' he later explains to Connor. 'The new kid or the foster kid or the kid with the dead mom and I'm sick of it. Why can't I just be Jude? I just want to be Jude for awhile.'
'We're trying to explore what it means to be 13, falling in love for the first time and having to come out to friends, family, the school community and deal with all the other bullshit having to do with being 13,' co-creator and co-executive director Peter Paige tells TV Guide. '... It has that operatic, angsty feel that teen love always does.'
The series follows the lives of the Foster family which is headed by an interracial lesbian couple who are raising a blended family of biological, adopted and foster children. Jude came to the family as an abused foster child and was subsequently adopted into the family. He began questioning his sexuality and the nature of his feelings for Connor.

Can't we all relate to wanting to "just be Jude" I know I can.
