Former Republican House majority leader
Tom DeLay predicted last week that a Supreme Court ruling striking
down state bans on gay marriage would lead to massive revolt.
The high court will hand down a ruling
this month in a case challenging bans in Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee
and Michigan. The decision could lead to nationwide marriage
equality.
Appearing on Newsmax, DeLay told host
Steve Malzberg that “all hell is going to break loose” if the
justices strike down the nation's remaining 13 bans.
“A ruling by the Supreme Court is
nothing but an opinion if the legislative branch and the executive
branch do not enforce it,” DeLay
said. “And not only that, if the states would just invoke the
10th Amendment and assert their sovereignty, they could
defy a ruling by the Supreme Court.”
“If this Supreme Court rules against
marriage, all hell is going to break loose.”
“We're going to stand for marriage,
even if it takes civil disobedience,” he added, a reference to a
pledge he and other conservatives, including presidential hopefuls
Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum, signed vowing to defy such a ruling.
And such a moral, righteous man who, in his days of Republican leadership in Texas, was known as "hot tub tom"...later, as a congressional leader, he was well noted for his adulterous affairs.
Most recently, he has been under extreme scrutiny for campaign finance fraud.
Yup, this is the fine, outstanding moral leadership we have come to expect from the hyper conservative Republican party.
