Do any of these people remember the 1950s blacklisting of Hollywood actors and writers because of their affiliation with "subversive" organizations and/or their "anti-American" beliefs? That boycotts were organized against any advertiser who sponsored a program that employed an actor who was on the blacklist?
Why the hell should I care--or they care--about Orson Scott Card's political beliefs? Just as our grandparents should only have cared if a Communist actor put on a good performance, I only care if the homophobic Orson Scott Card can write a good Superman comic. All this is not very far from the tactics practiced by Red Channels. If you don't get the reference, Google it.
