The Stonewall Inn Solidarity Rally encouraged LGBT people to stand as allies against President Trump’s discriminatory policies.
Held
today (4 February) in New York City, the rally aims to stand in
solidarity with ‘every person impacted by Donald Trump’s illegal,
immoral, unconstitutional and un-American executive orders.’
‘We
will also speak out against Trump’s selection of the most anti-LGBT
nominees and appointees in modern history,’ the Facebook event read.
The event also protested the proposed anti-LGBT executive order rumored to be in the works.
The event is sponsored by various LGBT organizations including the Ali Forney Center, Audre Lorde Project, GLAAD and Gays Against Guns.
Mayor Bill de Blasio
also came out in support, as well as Khalid Latif, executive director
for the Islamic Center at NYU and NYC Council Member Corey Johnson.
‘My name is Corey Johnson – I’m a New York City Council Member, I’m gay and I’m HIV positive,’ Johnson said.
‘One of the many things Stonewall told us – this progress does not come easy.
‘Well now it is our time to step up, our time to take the stage and our time to fight back,’ Johnson said.
