Vermont Bans Conversion Therapy For Minors

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin today signed a bill into law which protects LGBT youth from the dangers of conversion therapy.
Vermont follows California, New Jersey, Oregon, Illinois, New York, Washington D.C., and Cincinnati in banning the controversial practice for minors.
‘It’s absurd to think that being gay or transgender is something to be cured of,’ Shumlin said in a statement.
‘Our country has come a long way in a short period of time in recognizing the civil rights of members of the LGBT community, and I am so proud that Vermont has taken a leadership role at every step of the way.’
The governor added: ‘At a time when the rights of LGBT individuals are under attack in other parts of the country, Vermont will continue to stand up to hatred and bigotry and show the rest of the country what tolerance, understanding, and common humanity look like.’
Senate Bill 132 protects LGBT youth from mental health providers attempting to change their sexual orientation or gender identity through practices that are linked to substance abuse, extreme depression, and suicide.
It was approved by the Senate and the House of Representatives in April and will go into effect on 1 July.
Human Rights Campaign (HRC) President Chad Griffin praised the state and its governor for taking action.
‘No young person should be subjected to this extremely harmful and discredited practice, which medical professionals agree not only doesn’t work, but can also have life-threatening consequences,’ he said.
‘It is nothing short of child abuse.’

Christian conservative Sandy Rios last week criticized the confirmation of Eric Fanning to be Army Secretary.

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed Fanning, roughly eight months after President Barack Obama nominated him to the post, and he was sworn in on Wednesday by U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter. Fanning becomes the first openly gay leader of a U.S. military service.

On Thursday's episode of her American Family Association (AFA) radio show, Rios took issue with Fanning's sexuality, saying that he could not lead men into battle.

“When it comes to leading men into battle, when it comes to being secretary of the Army, I’ll take an alpha male any day,” Rios said. “I’m sorry. I know these war-like men too well and I don’t think most of them – very few of them are gay. You that are in the gay community, if you were to describe your friends and colleagues who are in this community, I don’t think you would describe them as warriors. I’m sure there are some, but still, I would prefer an alpha male.”

“That's where we've come: An openly gay man is the secretary of the Army, while the founder of the Delta Force, because he disapproves of transgender bathrooms in North Carolina, is fired from teaching at a college. It's just amazing,” she added, a reference to the firing of Jerry Boykin over remarks he made threatening violence against transgender women.

I know a few gay special forces guys and a number of Navy Seals, not to mention Marines that could teach this dumb bitch what a *REAL* alpha male is. 

Then again, any out teenage drag queen could do that.

The New Texas GOP Platform Implies There Are More Queers Than Steers In Texas

An errant comma in the Republican Party of Texas platform implies that the majority of Texans are gay.

“Homosexuality is a chosen behavior that is contrary to the fundamental unchanging truths that has been ordained by God in the Bible, recognized by our nations founders, and shared by the majority of Texans,” reads the plank, approved earlier this month by delegates at the party's convention.

Lone Star Q asked on Twitter whether the wording pointed to the sexuality of most Texans.

“In response, grammarians pointed out that placement of the final comma in the plank could lead to understanding it to mean that homosexuality is a chosen behavior shared by the majority of Texans,” Reuters wrote.

Other problems noted was the lack of an apostrophe on “nations” and that by using “has been,” the statement suggests that homosexuality has been ordained by God.

The Republican Party of Texas has previously stated its opposition to gay rights, including marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.
