Seems Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is more than willing to suspend his Teabagger/Libertarian leanings when it suits his needs.
Paul has discovered that Kentucky law forbids him from being on his parties ticket twice, which means he can't run for Senator and President at the same time in 2016...
Paul bitches that:
"Can you really have equal application of federal law if someone like
Paul Ryan or Joe Lieberman can run for two offices but in Kentucky you
would be disallowed?" Paul said. "It seems like it might not be equal
application of the law to do that. But that means involving a court, and
I don't think we've made a decision on that. I think the easier way is
to clarify the law."
Meaning, he's all for big government interceding on his behalf concerning his "special interest" needs.
Paul's camp maintains that states don't have authority to restrict
ballot access for federal elections. A Republican with considerable tea
party support, Paul maintains that federal law governs federal
elections.
Guess teabaggers aren't for states rights when it interferes with them getting what they want.
Double standard much Mr. Rand?
On the plus side, I agree with the Senator and since the Supreme Court has already ruled that DOMA was unconstitutional, marriage equality should be applicable by federal law, in every state, immediately!
