Can't Pray The Gay Away: Former Reparative Therapy Head Marries Gay Couples
The former head of an ‘ex-gay’ church has married a same-sex couple.
Wendy Gritter, who head formally headed up a member church of Exodus International, has apologized for her actions by doing the one thing she spent years preaching against.
Following her excommunication from Exodus International in 2008, a group which promoted ‘gay cure’ therapy, she said she could no longer be a part of something she no longer believed in.
‘It was kind of a mind-fuck to realize that the thing I was leading had traumatized people to the point of suicidal idealization,’ she said in an interview with Daily Xtra.
Gritter is now heading a new church, New Direction, offering a ‘safe and spacious place for sexual minority persons to explore and grow in faith in Jesus Christ’.
A part of her job involves now blessing same-sex couples and their unions in marriage. And for her? She now feels like she’s really doing God’s work.
