A conference held Monday, the day
before the World Congress of Families (WCF) opened in Salt Lake City,
featured a who's who of anti-gay rights activists.
The #Stand4Truth Conference:
Understanding Homosexuality was sponsored by the American Family
Association (AFA), Family Research Council (FRC) and MassResistance.
According to Right
Wing Watch, attendance was low – about 50 people during the
day, a bit more in the evening.
FRC's Peter Sprigg, who is also
scheduled to speak at WCF on Wednesday, delivered the morning
keynote.
Sprigg warned against compromise with
the LGBT rights movement, calling it “unwise” and
“unsustainable.”
Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans
For Truth About Homosexuality, echoed that sentiment by calling for
“zero affirmation of the gay rights paradigm.”
Brian Camenker, head of the militant
MassResistance, upped the stakes by describing the LGBT rights
movement as the enemy.
“I think there is a place for being
insulting and degrading,” he said. “And I think I can back that
up by Scripture. I think we have to look at this as a war, not as,
you know, a church service.”
Camenker said that God calls for the
“destruction” of people who “want to tear down society, who
want to push immorality, who want to tear down the moral structure of
society.”
Gay rights advocates, Camenker said,
“would send us to concentration camps if they could.”
The 9th iteration of the
World Congress of Families, which takes place over four days, opened
the following day. Notable LGBT rights opponents scheduled to speak
include Mark Regnerus of the Austin Institute for the Study of Family
and Culture, NOM President Brian Brown, the Reverend Rafael Cruz,
director of Grace for America, FRC Senior Fellow for Policy Studies
Peter Sprigg and Ruth Institute President Jennifer Roback Morse.
