Michigan Republicans Believe Religious Beliefs Should Over Rule Supreme Court
A Michigan representative plans to
introduce a resolution calling on state officials to ignore the
Supreme Court's June finding that gay couples have a constitutional
right to marry.
State Rep. Tom Hooker, a Republican,
read his resolution during a religious rally organized by the
Christian non-profit Salt & Light Global and held Wednesday
outside the Michigan Capitol, MLive.com
reported.
“The Supreme Court is not a
legislature,” Hooker told the audience. “Courts do not
substitute their social and economic beliefs for the judgment of
legislative bodies or elected and passed laws.”
State Senator Patrick Colbert, also a
Republican, is expected to sponsor a Senate version of the bill.
At Wednesday's rally, Colbert
said that the rights of Christians were under attack in America.
Hooker's
resolution calls the Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell v.
Hodges illegitimate “because the five justice majority, in
reaching its decision, acted without constitutional authority and
unconstitutionally usurped power expressly reserved by the United
States Constitution to the states and the people.”
Of course, using this idiots reasoning, every ruling made by the Supreme Court would be rendered illegitimate.
Yup, it's election year in Michigan, so let the pandering to our base begin!

Look, Shit Can Talk
In a campaign conference call between Cruz and religious anti-gay activists exposed this week by Right Wing Watch, the candidate attacks President Obama for letting gay people in the military, and yet again pledges to overturn the marriage ruling.
Asked whether he agreed that gay people are responsible for lowering morale in the military, Cruz said: “You look at the military and one of the things we’ve seen is morale in the military under the Obama administration has plummeted, and it has plummeted because you have a commander-in-chief that doesn’t support our soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines.
“You have a commander-in-chief that treats the military as a cauldron for social experimentation. He’s more interested in promoting homosexuality in the military than he is in defeating our enemy.
“For example, the military is now focused on trying to promote transgendered [sic] soldiers.
“The role of the military is not to be some left-wing social experiment.
“I would stop the shameless politicizing of our military to push a left-wing agenda that is contrary to the values and contrary to who we are as an American people and a nation founded on Judeo-Christian values.”
Pledging yet again to void all gay weddings, he said: “The gay marriage decision is one of the greatest threats to our democracy that we have seen in modern times.
“It is the decision reminiscent of [abortion case] Roe vs Wade of a handful of unelected judges arrogantly and lawlessly decreeing the authority to fundamentally change our country and to tear down the foundations of the country.
“It was five unelected lawyers declaring themselves the rulers of 320 million Americans. The response to that decision is one of the key distinctions in this election. Democrats celebrated that decision but sadly a lot of Republicans did as well… including several who are running for President.
“My response to this decision is that it was illegitimate, it was lawless, it was utterly contrary to the Constitution and that we should fight to defend marriage on every front.
“I’ve introduced a constitutional amendment in the Senate to restore the authority of the state legislatures who think marriage is the union of one man and one woman. I’ve also introduced legislation in the Senate to strip the federal courts of jurisdiction over challenges to marriage.”
The activist posing questions to Cruz in the call is Peter LaBarbera, who was arrested in Canada last year for distributing graphic extremist anti-gay literature.
It’s not the first homophobic extremist Cruz has ties with – in recent weeks he ducked calls to condemn a pastor he shared a stage with, who repeatedly said gay people should be put to death.
Cruz was challenged about the views of Pastor Kevin Swanson prior to attending his rally, but declined to condemn him.
I really don't think I need to point out what is so blatantly wrong with this piece of human filth, the fact he's in second place (right behind Trump) says all anyone ever needs to say about the Republican party.

Louisiana Governor-elect John Bel
Edwards plans to issue an executive order protecting LGBT state
employees and government contractors.
According to The Times-Picayune,
Edwards, a Democrat, told the paper he plans to sign such a document
after he takes office on January 11.
“People deserve not to be fired from
their jobs because of who they are,” Matthew Patterson of Equality
Louisiana told the paper.
Outgoing Republican Governor Bobby
Jindal refused to sign a similar order, saying it was “unnecessary.”
“We are certainly looking forward to
having a governor that makes human rights a priority,” said
Sarah Jane Brady of the Forum for Equality.
Gene Mills, head of the Christian
conservative Louisiana Family Forum, said that his group would fight
the directive.
“I have equal concerns that religious
liberties may be jeopardized,” he said.
This is a bullshit move from a Democrat who opposes gay marriage and has stated so many times while running for this office.
This protections bill is intended to do one thing, make him look good to his Democratic base, not one state employee has filed any kind of discrimination grievance in Louisiana for being fired because they were gay.

Leaders of the Religious Right, Still Don't Get It (And Probably Never Will)
James Dobson last week declared that
the Supreme Court's recent finding that gay and lesbian couples have
a constitutional right to marry was proof that “we lost the entire
culture war.”
Dobson founded the Colorado
Springs-based Christian conservative group Focus on the Family in
1977. He stepped down as president in 2003. He returned to
broadcasting in 2010 with a new radio program, Family Talk with
Dr. James Dobson.
During an appearance on televangelist
Andrew Wommack's The Gospel Truth, Dobson said that “a black
cloud” hung over him after he realized that the Supreme Court's
June decision was about more than just marriage, it was about “the
entire culture war.”
“It's about control of the public
schools and it's what happens in universities,” Dobson,
79, said. “It's about the economy and it's about business and
it's about the military and it's about medicine. It's about
everything. We lost the entire culture war with that one decision.”
No James, what you lost was their hearts and minds with your relentless assaults on anything different from your heteronormativity.
People simply got tired of seeing how so called Christians demean, repress, demonize and marginalize those they see not conforming to their little nihilistic death cults.
Learn to treat others the way you would want to be treated and maybe, just maybe people might just take you more seriously.
In simplest terms, quit being assholes to others.
