Coca-Cola Removes Social Media Tool That Banned the Word 'Gay', Apologizes

Sochi Olympics sponsor Coca-Cola has removed a social media tool from a website after it made headlines for banning the word "gay".
Said the tool when you tried to type in the word gay: “Oops. Let’s pretend you didn’t just type that.”
Said the company in a statement:

"We are aware that the Share a Coke promotion we are running in South Africa has generated an unintended outcome. We apologise for any offence caused. The Share a Coke programme was created to allow consumers to take the iconic “Coca-Cola” script and replace it with their name on the can. In South Africa, the digital version of the Share a Coke promotion did not properly limit the customisation to individuals’ names. We’ve taken down the site and are in the process of revising the digital tool immediately...As one of the world’s most inclusive brands, we value and celebrate diversity. We have long been a strong supporter of the LGBT community and have advocated for inclusion, equality and diversity through both our policies and practices. Again we apologise for any offense this has caused."

Conservatives Go Nuts Over Gay-Inclusive Grammy's Weddings

Social conservatives are livid that CBS aired a gay-inclusive mass wedding during Sunday's Grammy Awards show.

Queen Latifah presided over 33 marriages during a live performance of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' gay marriage anthem Same Love.

Conservative commentator Erik Rush said the performance was led by a “disgusting pack of subverts” and that it made him “want to vomit.”

“I've never seen such a display of intolerance, bigotry and hatred. #Grammy's #antichristian,” Fox News contributor Todd Starnes tweeted.

Radio host Lynn Woolley claimed in a post titled Gay Agenda Takes Over Grammy's that the “celebration of perversity” proves that “homosexuals have taken over the country.”

The Drudge Report ran with the headline The Gaymmy's!

Appearing on Fox News, Tim Graham of the Christian conservative Media Research Center, said the performance mocked traditional values.

“They can say this is not a stunt, but that's exactly what it is, a piece of musical agitprop to mock the traditional values of conservative American Christians, Jews, Muslims and others. Entertainers never want to have a debate, just a series of arrogant 'statements' with no opportunity for a conversation as they flush the Bible on national TV,” Graham said.

Christian conservative Ben Ferguson tweeted that the Grammy's showed “intolerance toward Christians and Bible believers.”

Like a single one of these people know anything about tolerance or open discussion.

If they feel their values are being mocked and their religion ridiculed, they have but look in the mirror and see why.

Everyone of these nay sayers continually perpetuate the vilest lack of virtuous altruism and blatantly abrogate anything worthy of being called social conscious.

European Continent Now Completely Free of Laws Criminalizing Gay Sex After Cypriot State Repeal

The European continent is now completely free of laws criminalizing gay sex after lawmakers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus voted today to repeal a colonial era sodomy ban. The bill, which was passed on a second reading, still requires endorsement by Turkish Cypriot leader Derviş Eroğlu but he has promised to sign it.
Cyprus Mail reports:

In the north, homosexuality was punishable by imprisonment for five years and Turkish Cypriot activists, had even until recently been forced to hold protests in secret, leaving LGBT signs and symbols anonymously in various places.

Paulo Côrte-Real, Co-Chair of ILGA-Europe’s executive Board, welcomed the move: “We can finally call Europe a continent completely free from laws criminalising homosexuality. In 1981, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in its historic judgment in Dudgeon v UK case that such laws are in breach of the European Human Rights Convention and must be abolished. It took Europe 33 years to completely free the continent from these unjust and discriminatory laws.”

In August 2012, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) agreed to examine a legal challenge against Turkey for the north’s continued failure to repeal a law banning homosexuality.

North America, Australia, and now Europe are free of laws criminalizing homosexuality.

Sochi Mayor Anatoly Pakhomov: No Gays In Sochi

Anatoly Pakhomov, the mayor of Sochi, site of next month's Winter Olympics, says his city has no gay residents.

“We don't have them in our town,” Pakhomov told the BBC.

“You sure?” the network's correspondent asked.

“I'm not sure,” he responded. “I don't bloody know them.”

Next month's games are being overshadowed by Russia's new anti-gay law, which prohibits the promotion of “gay propaganda” to minors.

Pakhomov insisted that all visitors would be welcome in his city as long as they follow the law.

“Our hospitality will be extended to everyone who respects the laws of the Russian federation and who doesn't impose their habits and their will on others,” he said. “But yes, everyone is welcome.”

When told of the mayor's claim, opposition leader Boris Nemtsov laughed.

“There are several gay clubs in Sochi,” he said. “How they survive? Why they are not bankrupt?”

Russia accuses EU of ‘not respecting’ Olympics and of ‘aggressively promoting’ homosexuality

A Russian official has accused the European Union of trying to impose an “alien view” of homosexuality on other countries, and of misusing the Olympics to do so.
Speaking two weeks before the opening of the Winter Olympic Games, Russian human rights official Konstantin Dolgov criticized EU members for seeking to influence Russia’s anti-gay laws, and for using the Olympics as a political pawn.
Speaking to press in Brussels, he said: “If a skater is planning to come as a member of the Olympic team not to compete, but to fight against a law in the host country, it is very bad. It means that this particular skater does not respect Olympic principles.”
He was in Brussels to launch his study on civil liberties in the EU, which says: “Attempts have been made to enforce on other countries an alien view of homosexuality and same-sex marriages as a norm of life and some kind of a natural social phenomenon.”
He also said in an interview with The Voice of Russia: “There is absolutely no discrimination of LGBT community in Russia as such. There definitely are some incidents, but incidents happen everywhere.”

“I had to counter the widely and wildly politicized views expressed by some representatives of the so-called Russian human rights community.”

"So-called Russian human rights community?
Do you mean those people who fear your governments oppression of their gay citizens?
Or is it just anyone who disagrees with your policies?
As for using the Olympics as a political pawn...as I and many others see it, the IOC has violated it's very own charter by allowing the Olympics to be held in your country in the first place!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Russia decriminalize homosexuality awhile ago, after the fall of the communist regime or is it your assertion that Putin is taking you back to the "Good Ol Days" and so you feel compelled to re-activate the old barbaric policies of that defunct system of governance?

Coke, Proud Sponsor Of Hate And Oppression

Recently, during the Olympic torch relay, a young gay Russian activist (Pavel Lebedev) unfurled a rainbow flag in protest to Russia's anti-gay propaganda law.
It was at this point, the young man was confronted by security guards (wearing the Coke logo no less) who tried repeatedly to rip the flag away from him, he resisted and was finally detained, arrested and fined for this demonstration at Sochi.
Having pointed all this out, Coke has responded to this incident by supporting Pavels detention, arrest and fining, stating that the reason was because he crossed into the relay route, not because of his protest...so Coke, my question to you, if this is the case, then why were they continually trying to rest the gay flag from him and why was he fined for gay propaganda, not, as you attest, for crossing into the relay route?

RNC Chair Reince Priebus Calls on Anti-Gay Michigan RNC Committeeman Dave Agema to Resign

Calls for the resignation of Michigan RNC Committeman Dave Agema are now coming from the top of his party.
Agema, the notoriously anti-gay RNC committeeman who, in the past has said that gays falsely claim people with AIDS as their lovers in order to cheat the system and get free medical benefits, and last week said Russia's anti-gay law is "common sense", is being called on to step down by RNC Chair Reince Priebus, the Washington Blade reports:

Sean Spicer, an RNC spokesperson, tweeted on the second day of the RNC winter meeting in D.C. that Preibus as well as Michigan Republican Chair Bobby Schostak asked for the resignation of RNC committee member Dave Agema.

Kirsten Kukowski, another RNC spokesperson, confirmed the tweet for the Washington Blade, saying “For the good of the party we believe Dave Agema should resign.”

According to the Detroit Free Press, Priebus and Schostak called for Agema to step down shortly after Priebus spoke to the RNC on Friday at the winter meeting about the need to expand the party’s base of voters.

That's rich coming from Reince Priebus who stated back in July:

"I do believe, and I still will tell you that our party believes, that marriage is between one man and one woman. Our party believes that life begins at conception. I think those are foundational issues that aren't going anywhere, but what I have said -- which I don’t think should be controversy at all, and I would think that Christians and pastors and everyone in between should agree -- that our principles have to be draped in the concepts of grace, love and respect and that’s not code language."

Translation...lets pretend to be tolerant but continue treating gays and women as second class citizens.

Sounds like the same old outdated, white male supremacist bullshit that we've come to expect from the GOP.
