A suburban Philadelphia woman convicted
of participating in a 2014 group attack on a gay male couple in
downtown Philadelphia won't receive the reduced sentence she had
hoped for.
According to the Philadelphia
Daily News, Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Roxanne
Covington ruled Monday that Kathryn Knott's sentence of five to ten
months in jail was appropriate.
Covington said that the 25-year-old
Knott is “in need of correction” and that a shorter sentence
would “depreciate the seriousness of the crimes.”
The victims of the
2014 attack told police that they were rushed by a mob of 10 to 12
men and women after one asked them if they were together. As a
result of the beating, one of the victims was hospitalized for more
than three days and had to have his jaw wired shut.
Knott, the daughter
of a suburban Bucks County police chief, refused a plea deal and went
to trial, where a jury convicted her of four misdemeanors, including
simple assault.
At today's hearing,
Covington chided Knott for refusing to take personal responsibility
for her crimes.

The judge should have added a few more months to the sentence, just for wasting her time.
