Greenland Approves Gay Marriage

Greenland's parliament on Tuesday unanimously approved a bill that legalizes gay marriage in the island nation.

Denmark granted Greenland autonomy in 1979, though it remains a country within the Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland's culture and politics continue to be influenced by Denmark.

In 1996, Greenland (population 57,000) adopted Denmark's registered partnership law, which provides gay and lesbian couples with nearly identical rights provided to married heterosexual couples.

The move to adopt Denmark's marriage law, approved in 2012, was supported by the government of Greenland and approved unanimously with two abstentions during its second reading held Tuesday, two months after its first reading.

Gay couples can begin exchanging vows on October 1, 2015.

Sofie Petersen, the Lutheran bishop of Greenland and the second female bishop in the Danish Lutheran Church, has previously endorsed marriage equality.

Gay porn actors could be forced to wear protective eye gear during shoots as part of an attempt to keep sets safe from sexually transmitted diseases. People in the industry are calling the new proposals ridiculous, saying they will only force production out of the state.
The Los Angeles Daily News reports on a 21-page draft which insists condoms, as well as eye gear, are used in all sex scenes. It would also require producers to pay for performers to go get medical visits and hepatitis B vaccines.
‘These are regulations designed for medical settings, and are unworkable on an adult film set – or even a Hollywood film set,' said Diane Duke, the CEO of the Free Speech coalition.
While the limits would not just be on gay porn, Duke says her organization and other groups wants to see the proposed regulation be amended after consulting with performers, production houses and public health officials.
This way, she says, this will 'protect adult film performers without stigmatizing and shutting down an entire industry'. The proposals follow a letter sent by Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to the state agency that complained poor enforcement was allowing producers to dodge the rules and film bareback porn.

Why any porn company would still be producing in California, is beyond me.

So, I've gotten a little grief over my selection in the Eurovision contest via emails...some friends from Sweden and others from Poland and elsewhere...
Here is why I picked Loïc Nottet as the real winner of Eurovision and why you should have too.
Both Mans and Polina did a superb job of performing their respective pieces and both had a plethora of stunning visuals to accompany the songs...some of the best producers in Europe helped these two achieve very dynamic performances.
But one thing stands out loud and clear, this was a talent contest and in that context, Mr. Nottet surpassed both with ease...how so you may ask?
Loïc Nottet did something the other two did not..he wrote the music and the lyrics for his song, he also did the choreography for his piece..basically, he was completely in charge of everything you saw and heard, and he just turned 19 years old!
Yes, he had a vocal coach and a team that helped him bring together some of the best in his country to help him reach his goals, but it was he who drove what happened, he didn't just learn to perform someone else's work.
My choice stands, Loïc Nottet should have won Eurovision, hands down and why he is someone to watch for in the future long after these other two have been forgotten.

Vatican Paper Calls Irish Gay Marriage Vote 'A Defeat'

The Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano has described passage of a referendum in Ireland that allows gay couples to marry as “a defeat.”

Voters in mostly Roman Catholic Ireland headed to the polls on Friday. The following day, thousands gathered at Dublin Castle's central square, where returns were being announced live on big-screen televisions. The referendum passed with more than 62% of the vote.

Neither Pope Francis nor the Vatican have officially reacted to the results.

“The margin between the 'yes' and the 'no' votes was too large not to be accepted as a defeat,” the paper wrote. “It was the result of high voter turnout, notably among young people.”

Reacting to the referendum results, Diarmuid Martin, the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, said that the Catholic Church “needs to have a reality check across the board.”

Martin had argued that the rights of gay men and lesbians should be respected “without changing the definition of marriage.”

“I ask myself, most of these young people who voted yes are products of our Catholic school system for 12 years,” he added. “I'm saying there's a big challenge there to see how we get across the message of the church.”

German opposition calls on Merkel to follow Ireland on equal marriage

The Republic of Ireland overwhelmingly voted to introduce same-sex marriage in a referendum last week, with 62.1% voting in favor and 37.9% voting against.
Following the victory, political leaders in a number of other countries – including Northern Ireland, Australia and Italy – are calling on their governments to follow suit.
In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel is facing calls for her Grand Coalition government to catch up and introduce equality.
Germany allows same-sex couples to enter into registered life partnerships that provide some of the benefits of marriage – but the Chancellor’s CDU/CSU coalition continues to oppose same-sex marriage.
Opposition Green leader Katrin Göring-Eckardt told Die Welt: “It’s time Mrs Merkel.
“The Merkel faction cannot just sit out the debate on marriage for all. I am confident that the Irish vote will accelerate equality in Germany.
“This is a great signal from Ireland. Equal love deserves equal respect.”
Jens Spahn, of Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union party, also expressed hope despite his party’s opposition.
He told the newspaper: “What the Catholic Irish can do, we can do, too … The populace is often further along in these matters than we think.”

A string of court rulings have already forced the government to take a more proactive stance on equality – calling for the recognition of same-sex parents.

Eurovision 2015

As expected, Mans Zelmerlow of Sweden won last nights Eurovision contest. (yes, we do watch Eurovision here in the states)
As many of you may know already, my first passion is erotic art, but the close runner up in my life has always been music.
I played guitar in bands for almost 20 years, mostly heavy metal, but I've always had a personal preference for the blues.
With that in mind, here's how I would have voted, in order and without bias toward either the performers or their countries views on LGBT issues:

A day after voters headed to the polls, both sides in Ireland's same-sex marriage debate acknowledge that heavily Catholic Ireland will become the first country in the world to approve such unions through a public vote. The only question that remains is by what margin.

High voter turnout appears to have helped the “yes” side.

Leo Varadkar, Ireland's health minister who came out gay during the campaign, said that Dublin voters overwhelmingly backed the measure

“We're the first country in the world to enshrine marriage equality in our constitution and do so by popular mandate,” he said. “That makes us a beacon, a light to the rest of the world of liberty and equality. It's a very proud day to be Irish.”

The AP predicted a “resounding” victory, while other outlets described it as a “landslide.”

All of Ireland's major political parties endorsed a yes vote, as did many political figures, including Prime Minister Enda Kenny.

“For gay sons&daughters, brothers&sisters, family&friends, Yeats said it best, 'Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.' #MarRef,” Kenny tweeted on Friday.

In offering “warm congratulations,” Mothers & Fathers Matter, a group which campaigned against passage, suggested that allowing gay couples to marry would harm children.

“We offer our warm congratulations tot he YES campaign on their victory,” the group said. “Today's result was achieved by the Government after they issued certain promises about surrogacy, adoption, and a range of other issues. A lot of voters believed those assurances and they must now be kept.”
