Rick Santorum Is Too Anti-Gay To Be President, Arlen Specter Says

Former Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter has said that Rick Santorum's views on social issues are not in step with the rest of America.

Specter, a former Republican, endorsed Santorum's 2006 Senate campaign.

Appearing Friday on MSNBC, Specter said he would not endorse Santorum for president.

“No, I would not,” Specter told anchor Chuck Todd. “My support for him for reelection to the Senate was based upon what he and I did as a team and on his seniority.”

“But when you have Senator Santorum's views so far to the right, with his attitude on women in the workplace and gays and the bestiality comments and birth control. I do not think it is realistic for Rick Santorum to represent America.

According to ThinkProgress.com, Santorum said he was “happy” to be opposed by Specter.

“I'm happy that Arlen Specter is opposing me, I think that shows how strong a conservative I am and I was able to go out and fight for the conservative cause and have victories for the conservative cause,” Santorum is quoted as saying on the Laura Ingraham radio show.
